Sustainability at Melchior
Fair and Ecological

Our Vision

To drive significant change, one needs a vision, and to stay on the right course, one needs a compass. This applies at sea as well as in the development of corporate resolutions. To achieve our medium- and long-term goals in terms of climate protection and stay on course, we have developed our own sustainability compass.

We are delighted with every significant or minor goal achieved, which ultimately creates a forward-looking vision from our numerous missions. What we do or have already done to achieve this, which partners support us, and which projects we precisely endorse, are regularly communicated on our website and our social media channels.

Our Mission

Through the continuous development of our high-quality and sustainable fabrics, we aim to make the working world a bit more environmentally friendly step by step. Quality and environmental protection are our top priorities. Innovative materials, the highest comfort, and durability are our goals. Transparent, sustainable supply chains and social responsibility are our standards.

We are your trusted partner for eco-friendly workwear and help you minimize your ecological footprint. We see our commitment as part of our corporate responsibility. Starting with the careful selection of raw materials through the production process to warehousing and disposal, we strive daily to implement this in small steps.

Melchior Sustainability Compass

People People

We enable our employees to work remotely from home. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that many work tasks can be effectively performed from a home office, reducing commute times (in the morning and evening) and conserving resources, such as fuel, tires, CO2 etc.

Raw Materials Raw Materials

When sourcing raw materials, we prioritize optimal environmental compatibility, sustainable cultivation or production, and rely on long-term partnerships with eco-friendly production facilities.

We work on the ecological qualification of our partners, among other things, to prevent unnecessary claims through timely quality checks.

Suppliers (Partners) Suppliers (Partners)

For textile suppliers, we only collaborate with partners certified under a valid environmental management system. We have clear expectations of our suppliers: Sustainable and energy-efficient production is a must for us.

Production Production

Production in Europe. Our production facility is located in Ronfe, Northern Portugal.

Regional production is important to us not only in terms of flexibility but especially for shorter transportation routes. Shorter transportation routes mean less energy consumption and are more environmentally friendly.

We aim for energy-efficient work processes and use modern technologies, such as a newly added biomass heating system that provides approximately 80% of the required steam for production, significantly reducing environmental impact. Our water-saving project has also reduced annual water consumption by over 13%.

Our environmental management according to ISO 14001 is evidence that we constantly strive for modern and environmentally conscious operational processes.

Both at our suppliers and in our own production, we promote the use of environmentally friendly energy, equipment, chemicals, and production processes and exclusively distribute fabrics that comply with the REACH regulation.

Fabrics Fabrics

All our fabrics are certified under OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and are subject to rigorous quality checks, which we monitor in our own laboratory. The limit values we adhere to are well below the requirements mandated by law.

Furthermore, some of our fabrics for work clothing in food establishments are tested and certified according to DIN 10524:2012 (HACCP).

Transport Transport

Our eco-friendly vehicle fleet, as well as environmentally conscious transport companies using EURO-6 engines, contribute significantly to reducing CO2 emissions.

Our warehousing and logistics team coordinates all shipments so that high loading density of cargo capacities is achieved on all freight trips.

Office Office

Our sustainability team continuously informs itself about new developments in environmental protection and shares this information with the entire Melchior team.

All colleagues are committed to following all environmental guidelines. This begins in the office with the separation of valuable, residual, and waste materials, which are sorted and disposed of properly. We also strive to purchase our consumables regionally.

For all daily consumables, we completely avoid solvent-based products. Business papers, sales materials, brochures, and promotional materials are produced using eco-friendly printing methods and chlorine-free bleached paper.

As of January 1, 2022, our accounting has transitioned to paperless processing. Invoices are now exclusively sent as pdf files via email. This transition significantly reduces paper usage.

All employees are encouraged to print only very important documents and to minimize the use of paper.

Energy Consumption Energy Consumption

Nearly all our electrical devices are energy-efficient. After working hours and during breaks, we avoid standby operation for all electronic devices.

A significant portion of our lighting has already been converted to LED. Our goal is to transition all necessary lighting in our offices and warehouses to LED by 2024. LED lamps are more energy-efficient, longer-lasting, and eco-friendly.
